Abstract
The aim of the present study was to investigate the role of organizational pessimism in predicting job performance, job self-efficacy, and perceived organizational support. Organizational pessimism, as a pervasive negative attitude, can have destructive consequences on various dimensions of employees' professional lives, which were analyzed in this study. The methodology of this study is descriptive-correlational in nature. Data collection tools included standard questionnaires of organizational pessimism, job performance, self-efficacy, and perceived organizational support. Data analysis was performed using Pearson's correlation coefficient and stepwise regression analysis. The results showed that there is a negative and significant relationship between organizational pessimism and all three variables of job performance, job self-efficacy, and perceived organizational support. (P < 0.05) Among the three dimensions of pessimism, the behavioral pessimism dimension showed the strongest negative relationship with all dependent variables and alone was able to explain a significant part of the variance in job performance. Research findings confirm that organizational pessimism, especially at the behavioral level, is a serious detractor for individual and organizational effectiveness. The weakening of self-efficacy and the erosion of the sense of organizational support due to pessimism create a negative cycle that leads to a decline in job performance. Therefore, managing pessimistic attitudes is an undeniable necessity for maintaining human capital.
