Abstract
Technological advancements and the changing traditional work patterns in government organizations have led to the increasing adoption of remote work as a modern work organization method. While remote work offers benefits such as increased flexibility and reduced organizational costs, its effects on individual employee performance are not always uniform or definitive. In this regard, the present research aims to investigate the impact of remote work on the individual performance of Tabriz Municipality employees, emphasizing the mediating role of work-life balance and the moderating role of leader-member exchange (LMX) quality.
The research is applied in terms of its objective and descriptive-survey in its methodology. The statistical population comprises all permanent employees of the Tabriz Municipality, numbering approximately 14,000 individuals. Using a stratified random sampling method and Cochran's formula, 400 individuals were selected as the sample size. The data collection tool included standard questionnaires, whose validity was confirmed through content and construct validity, and reliability through Cronbach's alpha coefficient and composite reliability. Data analysis and hypothesis testing were conducted using structural equation modeling and SmartPLS software. The research findings indicated that remote work has a significant positive impact on individual employee performance, and this impact is indirectly enhanced through the improvement of work-life balance. Furthermore, the findings suggest that the quality of leader-member exchange plays a significant moderating role in the relationship between remote work and individual performance. Based on the obtained results, simultaneous attention to supportive remote work policies and enhancing the quality of leadership relationships can lead to improved employee performance in municipalities and other government organizations.
