The mediating role of risk management in the relationship between audit committee effectiveness and corporate sustainability performance.

Abstract
Audit committees are an effective tool for monitoring and controlling the quality of disclosure, especially in enhancing the company's sustainability performance. An effective audit committee ensures effective corporate governance, which can enhance the company's ability to consider social and environmental aspects. This study examines the mediating role of risk management in the relationship between audit committee effectiveness and company sustainability performance. Therefore, in order to test the research hypothesis, a sample of 110 companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange was selected during the period 2019 to 2023. The results of the hypothesis showed that audit committee effectiveness (independence and financial expertise of audit committee members) has a positive effect on company sustainability performance. The results of the third hypothesis also showed that risk management has a positive effect on the relationship between audit committee effectiveness and company sustainability performance.
